Argentina To Eliminate Tax on Ecommerce Imports

The government of Argentina announced recently that it will partially eliminate taxes on products purchased abroad, as part of the trade liberalization process promoted by the government of President Javier Milei, CNN Brasil reported. The measure will take effect in December. The plan will raise the limit on foreign purchases exempt from tax to $3,000, from the current USD $1,000 per package delivered, according to Economy Minister Luis Caputo, as reported by Reuters. In addition, there will be no duties on imports under $400 for personal use with buyers only subject to VAT.

In addition, President Javier Milei deregulated mail service through a decree published in the Official Gazette recently. The decree eliminates the exclusivity public mail company Correo Argentino had over some services, such as certain kinds of official notifications, recorded-delivery mail, and packages of up to 50 kilograms. The new regulations allow this kind of document to be sent digitally, and for the recipient’s identity to be checked virtually, news reports indicate.
