USPS International Mail: Quarterly Report Shows Modest Growth
Posted on May 15th, 2016

U.S. Postal Service reports that revenue generated through international mail increased 4.8 percent for the quarter ending March 31, 2016, with revenue of $702 million. The volume of international mail increased from 231 million to 245 million pieces in the same period. For the six-month period ending March 31, 2016, revenue looked relatively flat, increasing from $1.419 billion to $1.509 billion, even though international mail volumes ticket up from 505 million to 547 million pieces. USPS attributes this divergence in volume and revenue to an increase in lower-priced inbound mail (much of that from tracked letter packets and parcels related to international ecommerce) and, to a lesser degree, the strength of the U.S. dollar compared to other currencies. Further details can be found in the quarterly report.
