Census Bureau Reports U.S. Retail Ecommerce Sales

Total U.S. retail ecommerce sales were $341.7 billion in 2015, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That represents an increase of 14.6 percent over 2014 sales. That's strong growth, given that total retail sales increased just 1.4 percent over the 2014 level. Ecommerce sales inched up to take a slightly larger portion of the retail pie: in 2015, ecommerce accounted for 7.3 percent of total retail sales, up from 6.4 percent in 2014.
In the fourth quarter of 2015, ecommerce retail sales totaled $89.1 billion (adjusted for seasonal variation but not for price changes).
