Pilot Program for U.S.-Cuba Postal Deliveries
Posted on December 18th, 2015

Direct postal deliveries between the United States and Cuba were suspended in 1963 but a pilot program will soon start to ease those restrictions. Following discussions with American officials on December 10, the Cuban Embassy in Washington said the pilot program will get underway within the next few weeks, “with the hope of eventually institutionalizing it on a permanent basis in the future.”

In another sign of the changing relationship, the two countries announced “a bilateral arrangement to establish scheduled air services between the two countries.” The December 17 State Department announcement indicated that restrictions on tourist travel would remain in place, “a stronger civil aviation relationship will facilitate growth in authorized travel between our two countries.”
