Reaching Africa's Econsumers

Brothers Chris and Tope Folayan created MallforAfrica, an online retail site, in 2013 to expand the selection of foreign consumer goods available to Nigerian shoppers, the New York Times reports. Few retailers were selling foreign goods in Nigeria, and many North American etailers were reluctant to ship there. The brothers created a web app for ordering and set up a Portland, Oregon warehouse for processing shipments. MallforAfrica now ships four and a half tons of products to Africa each week, offers its own debit cards to shoppers and has expanded its reach to Ghana and Kenya.
