Posted on December 4th, 2014

To IMAG Members:

Please see the following message received from IPC concerning strikes in Germany:

Issue type:        OPS
Date of report:  01. December 2014
Issue:               N° 113
Reported by:     Deutsche Post AG (DE)

Issue details:

Deutsche Post (DE) wishes to inform all IPC-members that due to strikes by postal workers in Nuremberg numerous letters and parcels have been put on hold at the weekend 29./30. November. 20,000 parcels and more than one million letters have not been delivered on Saturday, according to a “ver.di” workers union spokeswoman. Around 1,200 postal workers of the Domestic Sorting Centre Nuremberg participated in the action against fixed-term jobs at Deutsche Post. A spokeswoman of Deutsche Post confirmed that only one third of all items have been delivered in the postcode areas 90 and 91.

In the upcoming days, work meetings are planned in the other seven Bavarian Domestic Sorting Centres, as well as throughout Germany.

Employee representatives of Deutsche Post scheduled staff meetings in numerous Domestic Parcel Centres throughout Germany for December 05. This brings the risk of a reduced number of parcel delivery on December 06.
International traffic and handling is not affected so far. Deutsche Post expects delays in processing and delivery within special areas in Germany.
