Report: Expand duty-free exemptions for U.S. postal shipments to Canada

Tariffs and supply management strategies are responsible for the Canada-U.S. wholesale price gap, with Canadian consumers ultimately paying higher prices at the check-out counter, according to a report released by the C.D. Howe Institute. “The government should consider building on recent actions that allow consumers to pay US prices for goods by increasing more duty-free exemptions for travelers and postal shipments,” the lead author, Nicholas Li, notes in the report.
